Girls Varsity Softball · Shelbyville Softball Falls to Yorktown at Home


The Shelbyville softball team dropped its second contest of the season Saturday at home. The Golden Bears led the Class 3A No. 2 Yorktown Tigers 4-1 after the fifth inning but fell short in an 8-4 loss. Yorktown scored five runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh to earn the win.

Shelbyville is now 8-2 this season.

The Golden Bears finished with 11 hits Saturday, while the Tigers totaled 10.  Katie Mathies, Morgan Stieneker, Katie Lux and Addisenn Weaver led the team with two hits each. Izzy Lewis, Madison Campton and Kaylee Kingston each finished with one RBI. Kingston also hit a triple.

Senior TeAnn Bringle earned the loss on the mound for SHS. She finished with two strikeouts and one walk.

Shelbyville is now 1-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with HHC games against Greenfield-Central and No. 1 New Palestine at home this week.

Lux leads the team with a .625 average and 20 hits. Bringle is hitting .586 and Lewis .516. Bringle and Lewis each have four home runs with Bringle leading the team with 20 RBIs. Weaver, who hits at the top of the order, has three home runs and five doubles in her first varsity season.

TC drops contest to Hauser

The Triton Central softball team fell to 4-3 this season with a 6-1 loss to Hauser on Saturday. The Jets led 5-0 after the fourth inning en route to the win.

Madison Hartman led the Tigers with three hits in the loss. Katie Cook (home run), Maecy Speece and Savanna Trueblood also had a hit. Cook added one RBI.

Elizabeth Mukka took the loss on the mound for TC.

Cook, Hatman, Sydney Bass and Addison Meier are all hitting over .400 this season. Cook (.458) leads the group with 11 RBIs and two home runs. Bass has scored 12 runs.

Mukka is 3-1 this season with 21 strikeouts and a 2.51 ERA.

Tigers split with Royals

The Triton Central baseball team split its doubleheader Saturday morning with the Eastern Hancock Royals. TC won Game 1, 8-3, and lost Game 2, 10-4.

The Tigers are now 4-4 overall this season.

TC scored four runs in the sixth inning of Game 1 to earn the victory. Colton Brown and Conor O’Neill led the Tigers with two hits each. Brown and Hayden Kermode totaled two RBIs.

Keaton Kermode threw four innings to earn the win on the mound. He allowed one hit and stuck out three. Austin Harmon threw in relief and finished with five strikeouts.

In Game 2, the Royals led 6-1 after the second inning and never looked back.

Aaron Steele, Matt Guhl, Keyan McKee, Hayden and Keaton Kermode and O’Neill finished with hits for TC.

Daniel Peterson earned the loss on the mound.

Brown leads the team with a .476 batting average to go with eight RBIs and two doubles. Peterson is hitting .389 and H. Kermode .348. K. Kermode leads TC with 11 RBIs and three doubles.

Harmon leads the pitching staff with 13 strikeouts.
