Varsity @ Greenfield-Central
The Varsity Softball Team traveled to Greenfield-Central for an HHC showdown on Tuesday night. The big bats came to play with a 17-4 victory including six home runs. Katie Mathies was 3-4 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI’s, Kiley McIver 3-4 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI’s, Karissa Hamilton was 2-3 with a double and a home run, Addisenn Weaver was 2-3, Madison Campton was 2-4 with a double and home run, Cheyenne Eads was 2-4 with a double, Kylee Edwards was 1-3, and Kaylie Phelps walked three times on the night. Cheyenne Eads was the winning pitcher with 4 innings pitched and 6 strikeouts. Brooke Lipperd pitched the final inning for the Golden Bears. Shelbyville moves to 15-1 on the year and 5-0 in the HHC.
Varsity @ New Palestine
The Varsity Softball Team traveled to New Palestine on Thursday night for an HHC showdown of powerhouse teams. The game lived up to the hype, but the Golden Bears were defeated 4-3 in a heartbreaking game. The varsity is now 15-2 and 5-1 in the HHC play. Edwards was 2-4 with a double, Hamilton 1-2 with a home run and 2 RBI’s, Weaver was 1-3 with a double, and Eads was 1-3. Eads pitched a gem pitching a complete game only allowing 2 earned runs. The varsity will travel to Batesville on Friday for a 5:30 first pitch.
Varsity @ Batesville
The Varsity Softball Team traveled to Batesville on Friday night for a non conference battle. The Golden Bears exploded for 8 runs in the top of the second for the 13-3 win. The offensive explosion was let by Hamilton going 4-5 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI’s. Edwards was 2-5 with a home run, Weaver was 2-3 with a home run, Campton was 2-2, and McIver and Phelps were 1-3 with 2 runs scored. Pogue started the game and pitched 4 innings picking up the win in the circle with 4 strikeouts. Lipperd pitched 3 innings with 3 strikeouts. The Varsity moved to 16-2 on the year and will host Mt. Vernon on Tuesday for an HHC showdown starting at 5:30 pm.

Varsity @ Franklin Central
The varsity baseball team traveled to Franklin Central on Monday night for a non-conference showdown. The Golden Bears weathered an early storm by Franklin Central to win 7-3 and improve to 9-7 on the year. Shelbyville used a big fourth inning to secure the victory. In the big inning Brayden Basey, Charlie Rife, Benny Thompson, and Brandon Bass all moved runners across the plate with RBI’s. Bass was credited with the victory for the Golden Bears by going all seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out one and walking zero. Bass went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Golden Bears in hits. Shelbyville will travel to Delta on Tuesday night for a 6 pm start.
Varsity @ Delta
Tyler Smalley had all the right stuff on Tuesday for the Golden Bears, allowing zero runs and besting Delta by a score of 14-0. Brayden Basey led the Golden Bears to victory by driving in four runs going 3-for-4 at the plate. Basey drove in runs on a double in the first and a single in the third. The Golden Bears got things started in the first inning when Kaleb Schaf singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run. The Golden Bears exploded for six runs in the third inning. The Golden Bears offense in the inning came from singles by Basey and Caden Tackett and a groundout by Layton Stieneker. Smalley earned the victory on the mound for the Golden Bears. The right hander lasted five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking zero. The Golden Bears totaled 13 hits in the game with Benny Thompson, Basey, and Schaf each having multiple hits. Shelbyville moved its record to 10-7 and 3-4 in the HHC and will host Delta on Friday starting at 6 pm.
Varsity vs. Delta
The Golden Bears Varsity Baseball Team hosted Delta for game two of the HHC series on Friday night. Despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, the Golden Bears still held off Delta for a 10-9 victory. Delta scored five runs in the failed comeback on a single by Corbin Uhrivk in the fifth, a groundout by Jackson King in the fifth, a single by Trevor Edgerton in the fifth, a error in the fifth, and a groundout by Mario Lopez in the sixth. Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. Shelbyville collected eight hits and Delta had nine. The Golden Bears exploded for six runs in the third inning with Luke Jackson’s double scoring 3 runs and Charlie Rife’s single scoring another 3 runs. Benny Thompson was the winning pitcher for the Golden Bears. The pitcher lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and eight runs while striking out five. Tyler Smalley threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Smalley recorded the last seven outs to earn the save for the Golden Bears. Kaleb Schaf, Caden Tackett, and Rife all managed multiple hits for the Golden Bears. Rife, Tackett, and Schaf all had two hits to lead the Golden Bears. Shelbyville moved to 11-7 on the year and 4-4 in HHC play. They will travel to Yorktown on Tuesday starting at 6pm.
Varsity vs. Batesville
The Girls Varsity Tennis team lost 2-3 against Batesville on Tuesday night. #1 singles Gabbi Knox won 6-3, 6-1. #2 singles Jaidyn Tackett won 0-6, 6-3, 10-7. The varsity is now 2-4 overall and their next match is Thursday at home against Beech Grove. JV winners include Renee Aldridge, Alex Gobel & Ava Needham, Olivia Graham & Hannah Pickett.
Varsity vs. Beech Grove
The Varsity Girls Tennis hosted Beech Grove on Thursday. The team won 5-0 in a great night for tennis. The girls moved its record to 3-4 on the year. The girls will travel to Whiteland on Saturday for the Whiteland Invite starting at 9 am.
Varsity @ Whiteland Invite
The Girls Tennis Team traveled to Whiteland on Saturday morning for a 4 team invite. The Golden Bears were defeated by the host Warriors and defeated University 5-0 in the second round, and International 4-1 in the third round to finish 2nd on the day. The team moved to 5-5 on the year and will host Greenfield-Central on Tuesday starting at 5:30 pm.
Varsity vs. Rushville
The Golden Bears won their first match of the 2021 season, defeating Rushville 173-183. Medalist for the match was Shelbyville’s Nolen Chaney with a 4 over par 40. The Junior Varsity also defeated Rushville (207-218). Medalist for the match was Rushville’s Devin Richardson with a 49. The Golden Bears were led in scoring by Trey McCullum and Preston Ferring each with a 51. The Golden Bears are back in action on Thursday, April 29, 2021 when they travel to Batesville.
Varsity vs. Batesville / Varsity @ Cougar Golf Invitational
The Golden Bears won their second straight dual match of the 2021 season, defeating Batesville 203-204. Medalist for the match was Batesvilles’ Austin Pohlman with a 42. Shelbyville was led by Eli Baker 47, Ethan Apsley 50, Matthew Bunton 52, and Garet Skaggs 54. The Junior Varsity was defeated by Batesville (228-246).
The Golden Bears turned right around on Saturday morning and traveled to Trinity Lutheran for the Cougar Invitational. The team finished 4th and was led by: Ethan Aspley – 89, Matthew Bunton – 90, Eli Baker – 94, Nolen Chaney – 98, and Garet Skaggs – 102
