Shelbyville’s defense seems to be peaking at just the right time. For the 4th consecutive contest, the Golden Bears were able to keep their opponents off the score sheet. Against Yorktown, keeper Kaleb Schaf didn’t have much to do. Cameron Baker helped lead the back line with a commanding presence in the air. Baker was able to use his heading ability to add 2 goals for the Bears as well. The first came directly from Eddie Carrizalez’s corner; the second was a quick reaction after a shot had bounced back off the crossbar. Nolan Parker kicked off the scoring 90 seconds into the game. Cory Taylor scored his own header 10 minutes later.
The heat and injuries started taking a toll in the second half, but Baker’s goals put the game out of reach. Oscar Hernandez finished off the scoring, and allowed Shelbyville to rotate some players in. The Golden Bears are undefeated in conference, halfway through the schedule. Two big conference matchups await this week, with a trip to Mt Vernon on Tuesday and a visit from New Castle on Thursday.
