It was an emotional evening as the Shelbyville track & field team hosted the Golden Bear Invitational and senior night, marking our final home meet of 2026. For the boys, Ethan Griffin led the way in the field, winning the shot put with a toss of 46' 5.5" and adding a runner-up finish in the discus at 129' 4". On the track, Joaquin Delgado secured a victory in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.63, while Eli Davis sprinted to a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 53.36. The boys' 4x200m relay (Alex Wells, Eli Davis, Trell Garner, Kamden Turner) also earned a second-place spot, while the 4x400m relay team (Eli Davis, Alex Wells, Shane Owens, Kamden Turner) battled to a third-place finish. The girls squad secured the team championship for the first time in meet history behind numerous winning performances. Sonora O'Connor broke the SHS school record in the long jump, winning the event with a leap of 17' 2.5". She would also go on to win the 300-meter hurdles in 46.70, a new PR, and place second in the 100-meter hurdles (16.15). Jordyn Noe was nearly unstoppable, capturing first-place titles in both the high jump at 5' 2" and the 100-meter hurdles in a personal best time of 15.88. In the middle distance, Macey Robbins claimed first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.48. The girls' depth was on full display as several others finished in the top 3 in their events. Amara Lewis took third in the 100-meter dash (13.33), Alyna Castanon earned third in the 400-meter dash (1:04.05), and Mary O’Connor leaped to third in the long jump (15' 6"). Haylee Barnes rounded out the individual scoring with a third-place clearance in the pole vault at 7' 0". To seal the team win, the relay teams were dominant; both the 4x400m (Jordyn Noe, Alyna Castanon, Macey Robbins, Sonora O'Connor - 4:11.49) and the 4x800m (American Leon, Alyna Castanon, Aerin Garcia-Santiago, Macey Robbins - 10:16.35) squads took first place, with the 4x200m (Mary O'Connor, Jordyn Noe, Wura Ogunmoyela, Amara Lewis) finishing second and the 4x100m (Mary O'Connor, Diana Gasca, Wura Ogunmoyela, Amara Lewis) taking third. It was a storybook ending to our home season and a fitting tribute to our seniors. Up next is the Cougar Chase Invitational hosted by Greenfield-Central on Friday, May 8th.
