One day wasn't enough to contain all of the personal records and excitement of the IHSAA Girls Sectional 20 competition. Due to weather concerns, the meet was postponed to Wednesday after only one event was able to be fully completed on Tuesday. Prior to postponing, the girls 4x800 (America Leon-Torres, Alyna Castanon, Aerin Garcia-Santiago, Macey Robbins) placed 5th in a time of 10:24.57. Amara Lewis ran 13.28 seconds in the 100 meter dash, and Sonora O'Connor and Jordyn Noe ran 15.73 and 16.52, respectively, to earn their spots in the finals which would take place the following day. In the finals, Sonora O'Connor unleashed a huge personal best of 15.37 in the 100 meter hurdles to take 2nd place and secure an automatic regional qualification. Jordyn Noe finished in 5th with a time of 16.28. Sonora would return to the track to take 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles in another personal-best time of 46.66. Macey Robbins punched her ticket to regionals in the 800 meter run not long after, with a personal-best of 2:23.85 which earned her second place. The 4x100 relay (Mary O'Connor, Diana Gasca, Wura Ogunmoyela, Amara Lewis) placed 4th in 52.09 seconds. And finishing the night on a high note, the 4x400 relay (Jordyn Noe, Alyna Castanon, Macey Robbins, Sonora O'Connor) came from behind to secure the victory in a season-best time of 4:10.93. While the 4x800 relay and 4x100 relays, as well as Jordyn Noe (100m hurdles), did not place in the top 3 of their respective events, they all ran fast enough to earn an at-large bid for next week's regional meet. In all, 6 events and 10 athletes qualified for the regional meet, making it one of the best SHS sectional performances in recent memory.
