It was heartbreak for two Golden Bears athletes on Thursday night at the IHSAA Sectional 20 hosted by Whiteland Community High School. Joaquin Delgado stumbled over a couple hurdles in both hurdle races and narrowly missed finishing in the top 3 to advance to next week's regional. He was on pace for a huge personal best in the 300 meter race before he hit the eighth and final hurdle and went down just feet from the finish line. He ultimately finished in 5th place in the 110 meter hurdles (16.15) and 4th place in the 300 meter hurdles (45.18). Shia Veach returned to the track for the first time in a month after a late-season calf strain put his season in jeopardy. Despite the prolonged absence, he mustered a gutsy performance in the 3200 meter run, finishing in 5th place with a time of 10:05.01. Ethan Griffin placed in both throwing events, taking 5th place in shot put (44' 7.5") and 6th place in discus (142' 10"). Other placers included Logan Reinhart in the 1600 meter run (4:49.75 - 8th), Eli Davis in the 400m dash (53.99 - 7th), Anthony Stafford in shot put (41' 7.5" - 8th), and Kamden Turner and Noah Jones in pole vault (8' 6" - 6th and 7th, respectively). The 4x800 relay of Logan Addis, Jonathan Roell, Iran Daza, and Ethan Pritchett placed 7th. Barring any last minute scratches, the Bears will not have anyone advance to next week's regional. The season may end on a bit of a sour note, but it was still a great season of growth and development with lots of personal best marks! Full Results
