Shelbyville HS girls and boys XC runners competed in their first 5k of the season at Franklin Community this morning, in the newly named Doug Drenth Invitational. Leading the way for the ladies was America Leon (15th, 20:44), followed soon after by Macey Robbins (17th, 20:59). Both runners finished faster than this time last year and many spots higher. Rounding out the top 5 scorers for the Lady Bears were Paige O'Connor (24:38), Harper Kinsey (25:32) and Anne Marie Fansler (26:18). Despite being down a Top-5 runner to illness, the ladies finished 8th overall, notably defeating new HLC opponents Greenwood and Indian Creek. The boys' race started with a bang as senior Shia Veach surged to a spot in the top pack, pushing all the way to a 4th place overall finish (of 196 runners) with a huge new PR (personal record) of 16:00. The second scorer for the boys was Eden Ortega (18:17), dropping a huge new PR by 1 min, 27 seconds. Rounding out the top 5 scorers for the Bears were Anderson Mollenkopf (19:27), Kendryk Pike (19:30) and Tanner Jones (21:32). The boys finished 10th overall. The teams return in action next weekend at the Rick Weinheimer Invite in Columbus. Pictures attached - more on our X (SHSTFXC) and Instagram (ShelbyvilleXC) pages. Team Results/Splits Full Results
