Shelbyville High School

The Shelbyville HS Cross Country teams traveled to Lavern Gibson (Terre Haute) for the Friday races at the 2-day Nike Twilight (XC Town) Meet. We had runners compete in the JV Boys race and both girls and boys "Open Gray" races Friday night. Our teams performed extremely well - easily our best meet of the seasons so far. The girls finished 14 of 29 complete teams, led by America Leon in 27th (20:29), Macey Robbins in 34th (20:39 - 14 sec all-time PR), Harper Kinsey (113th, 22:22:48 - 32 sec PR), Kat Seal (149th, 23:45 - Season Best), and Anne Marie Fansler (165th, 24:03 - 36 sec PR). Of our 9 competing girl runners, 7 had all-time PRs (Macey, Harper, Anne Marie + Claire Kamplain, Belle Orem, Brandi Santiago and June Meltzer). This is also the first time the girls' team has had 7 girl runners under 25 since 2018! Shia Veach put on an absolutely thrilling performance in the boys' open race. Out of 385 runners, he finished 2nd overall, battling within the Top 3 over most of the race. He finished in an incredible new PR of 15:54, which puts him now only about 18 sec from the SHS school record (Sean Hudson, 15:36, 2003). Rounding out the top 5 for the boys were Eden Ortega (107th, 18:12), Kendryk Pike (122nd, 18:22 - a 48 sec PR!), Anderson Mollenkopf (161st, 18:59 - a 8 sec PR), and Eli Davis (263rd, 20:31 - 29 sec PR). Of our 14 total boys' runners, 10 had all-time PRs (Shia, Kendryk, Anderson, Eli + Tanner Jones, Elliot Wung, James Melvin, Victor Quiros Menez, Jacob Craig, Evin McMillen). The boys team finished 20th of 42 complete teams. This race was Shelbyville's last regular season 5k. Next Saturday we travel to Franklin Community for a 3k race to wrap up the regular season.
