The Bears traveled to Columbus East High School on a beautiful Tuesday night for what turned out to be the best night of competition on the season thus far. The girls were led by freshman Emma Claxton who won the 100 meter hurdles with a nice PR time of 19.11. The Lady Bears also received top-3 finishes from Hannah Wright (2nd in the 1600m run in 6:25.73), Avery Keller (2nd in the 3200m run in 14:33.81), and Aerin Garcia (3rd in the 3200m run in 14:37.67). The boys team had multiple event champions by winning the 4x800 (Ben Price, Elijah Von Werder, Teegan Ervine, and Tristin Maloney, 9:08.79) and 4x400 (Blake Hughes, Von Werder, Price, and Christian Powell, 3:43.33) relays and only narrowly missed the relay sweep when the all-sophomore 4x100 relay (Keagan Turner, Colten Sherwood, Hughes, Powell, 46.42) took 2nd place in a big season-best time. Individual event champions included Blake Hughes in the 400 (55.55) and 200 (24.49), Elias Slaven in the 800 (2:23.18), Beau Kenkel in the 3200 (10:50.22), Ethan Lambert in discus (136’ 10”), and Keagan Turner in pole vault (9’ 0”). The Bears also received top-3 finishes in numerous events: 110 hurdles - Isaac Zermeno (20.33, 2nd) 100 - Christian Powell (11.69, 2nd) 1600 - Elijah Von Werder (5:14.20, 2nd), Elias Slaven (5:25.16, 3rd) 300 hurdles - Isaac Zermeno (49.12, 3rd) 800 - Gavin Harker (2:26.17, 2nd) 200 - Keagan Turner (25.36, 2nd) Connor Zobel (25.57, 3rd) 3200 - Teegan Ervine (12:37.07, 3rd) Long jump - Christian Powell (18' 10.75", 3rd) Shot put - Ethan Lambert (39’ 10”, 3rd) Up next, the Bears will travel to Franklin Community for the Bill Self Invitational on Friday, April 14th.
