The Shelbyville HS Boys & Girls Cross Country teams competed at the Plainfield Relays this Saturday. Varsity pairs ran a hokum karem style relay, in which each pair ran 3x 1 mile per person, for a total of 6 miles. JV runners completed an independent 2 mi race. The boys were led by a phenomenal effort from Logan Reinhart (Sr) and Shia Veach (Jr), who dropped over 1.5 minutes from their combined time last year to finish a stellar 14th overall in a very competitive meet, with a time of 31:25 (6 miles). Shia Veach dropped a 4:59 in the closing mile! The boys team finished 13th, 2 positions higher than last year. The girls were paired strategically, with each of the scoring 3 pairs (Keller/Leon-Torres,O'Connor/Garcia-Santiago, Seal/Robbins) finishing back to back, good enough for a strong 9th place finish (2 spots higher than last year). Most notably, each of the 3 top girls pairs dropped an average time of 2 minutes each from this time last year. Huge strides were made in our JV race, with big improvements from last week among all runners. We return in action next Saturday at the Franklin Community Invitational for our first 5k of the season!
