The Shelbyville Cross Country teams had a phenomenal morning at our first 5k of the season. Both teams responded very well to seasonally cool temps and fierce competition, including state-ranked teams. Our boys team finished 14th overall, led with an amazing performance by our top 2 runners, who each scored lifetime PRs: Shia Veach, 11th overall (podium finish), 16:21 Logan Reinhart, 59th, 17:30 Other all-time PRs came from several of our returners: Anderson MollenKopf and Kendryk Pike both broke 20 for the first time (19:44, 19:52), while Everett Stegemiller broke 21 (20:48) for the first time, as well. Many newbies had stellar first 5ks, including Eden Ortega, Levi Harding and Alex Wells (each under 21). This morning was the best our boys' team has performed at this meet in years. Our top 5 (scoring) average time was over 1 minute faster than this time last year. The girls finished a very competitive 10th overall, led by freshman American Leon-Torres who finished 27th in a very solid time of 20:50. Other top girls runners: Macey Robbins, 41st, 21:32 Aerin Garcia-Santiago, 61st, 22:29 Paige O'Connor, 74th, 23:03 Similar to the boys, our girls team is really stepping it up with talent this year. Our top 5 (scoring) average time was over 3 minutes faster than last year! We are looking forward to dropping even more time at Ceraland Park in Columbus next weekend at the Rick Weinheimer Invite!
