It was a great night of track & field action at Greenfield-Central on Thursday for Sectional 21. To kick things off, the 4x800 team of Elijah Von Werder, Ben Price, Teegan Ervine, and Beau Kenkel finished in 5th place with a time of 8:40.95. Their time was good enough to earn them an at-large regional qualification. Shortly afterwards, Ethan Lambert claimed his automatic qualification in the discus throw by placing 3rd with a distance of 151' 0". Blake Hughes stepped right back onto the track after a season-best time in the 4x100 relay in order to run a massive personal best and place 4th in the 400 with a time of 51.81. His effort earned him the first at-large bid in the event for next week's regional meet. Torn between the 800m and 1600m runs, Beau Kenkel's strategy to focus on the 800m paid dividends as he finished in 4th with a big personal best time of 2:02.41, also earning a spot in next week's regionals. In addition to the regional qualifiers mentioned above, we had some great performances by the following: Christian Powell - 7th in the 200m dash (23.41, his 23.20 in prelims was a PR) 4x100 of Keagan Turner, Colten Sherwood, Hughes, Powell - 8th (45.57, new PR) 4x400 of Powell, Kenkel, Von Werder, Hughes - 6th (3:35.11, new season PR by over 4 seconds, Hughes split 50.60 on anchor leg) Turner - 8th in pole vault (9' 0") The team really rose to the occasion and had a great night! We are very proud of them and excited to continue training for another week! Full results: https://indiana.tfrrs.org/results/80633/IHSAA_Sectional_21_Boys
